CHARACTER STUFF
Name: Nessa Llewellyn (Nepeta Leijon)
Aliases: Wildcat
Canon: Homestuck (
Canon info here)
Role: Superhero
Species: Powered Human
Gender: Female
Age: 17
Appearance: Nepeta is a small, muscular teenager, her body quite obviously toned through sport. She's got a dark olive skin tone and black unruly hair that she can never quite get into control and her body is peppered with freckles, mostly across her face and shoulders. She keeps her nails long and filed into sharp points and is pretty much always smiling. Her superhero outfit is loosely based off of the
Rogue god tier outfit she has, but without the hood or the wings and the entire outfit is a dirty dark olive green. (the boots are dark brown though!) She wears a
domino mask that shifts with her whatever form she's in. Big cats in domino masks guys. She spends about half of the time as one of many feline forms. The form she uses for fighting (her 'super form') is a very large Sabre-toothed cat with spot markings up it's legs and a short stubby tail. From the shoulder, she's about the size of a horse in this form. Nessa's also seen in a variety of cat forms, from house cats and servals to her favourites, tigers and snow leopards.
Origin story: Born and raised in Oregon, Nessa Llewellyn was a pretty average single child. Or, as average as a child who could randomly change into cats could be. From a very young age, her parents knew their daughter was different. When she was two, she spent a week and a half with a tail and whiskers after watching birds at their window. After the initial shock and subsequent hospital visit to discover their child had superpowers and nothing was in the water, they got used to it pretty quickly. When she was three, she managed to transform into a complete kitten, much to her mother's dismay, and spent three weeks scampering around the house instead of toddling. It took a few attempts before they managed to coax her out of it, and back into their daughter.
As she grew up, Nessa got better at transforming bigger and cooler animals. She never really strayed from cats though, as they were the first, and her favourite to do. Her mother telling her off for 'Paws at the dinner table' became frequent. Other than cat powers, Nessa was pretty much an average teenager. She spent a lot of time on her computer, roleplaying in close knit RP-groups (Mostly mythical creatures) and made several friends across the continent that she remains in contact with. As well as rping, she used to get into heated discussions about the top Superheroes and who they should be Together Forever with, known as Super Shipping, which she still takes very seriously, much to her closer friends dismay. She loved drawing, and marital arts, and was pretty good at Judo at one stage.
Her father, Huw was a keen hunter, and every year they would go deer hunting. Her father insisted that they use the
proper method--rifles--no matter how many times Nessa insisted that she could shift into a mountain lion and help. Huw doubted she could handle the shock of actually taking something's life with her own teeth, and his concerns were proven on one particularly cold hunting trip when she was thirteen.
It had been going smoothly, they had been on the trail of a stag that had gone deep into the undergrowth. It was rutting season, so caution was needed as the stags would be more aggressive than usual. Unfortunately, neither of them saw it coming when it burst out of the undergrowth, spooked by
something (to this day Nessa doesn't know what it was) and when faced with two humans with guns, immediately drew it's head down and charged. Her father couldn't fire fast enough, and the antlers of the stag gored their way into her father. She reacted the only way she knew how, by dropping the gun and jumping at the deer with a scream that turned into a roar as she shifted, dragging the screaming buck off of her father. She crushed it's windpipe, her new tiger fangs making short work of it. As her father lay there dying, she found that the rush and taste and
blood of the kill was trying to push out her logical brain. She spends what feels like hours battling the cat inside of her, until her father finally lifted his hand, curling it around her feline face and then breathed his last. That's all it took to give in.
She was lost for months. Feral and living off the land. She doesn't know how many kills she made, but each one was more exciting and thrilling than the last. She never killed for sport--only to sustain herself, and took up residence in their abandoned cabin. She forgot her name, her life before hunting, and even her dying father's last words. She forgot what it was to be human.
Nessa was only brought back to humanity when she strayed out of her territory and onto farmland. A tiger isn't something you see often in Oregon, so the authorities were called, and she was dart gunned and captured. It was only when she became unconscious did they realise that she wasn't a tiger at all, but a very wild looking girl.
Her mother was found and contacted, but Nessa wasn't released. Whenever she was awake she'd revert back to the feral form they found her in and it took them several weeks and her mother risking her life to try and connect with her to get her to come back to them.
Recovery was a slow and shaky process. At her core she still had the mind of a cat, but as the memories slowly came back to her, she became more like herself. She was still contained but given some of her items back--like her laptop, and drawing utensils, and she rediscovered what she loved about being human. Her mother sat with her for hours on end and spoke of their little family and they mourned the loss of a husband and father together.
After almost six months in 'captivity' as Nessa would come to call it, they agreed to release her, but only if she gets her powers completely in check. So she says goodbye to her mother, and is sent to a rehabilitation institute for supers. Whilst she was there, her personality comes back to her. She still has her feral moments, but most of the time, she's as she was before everything happened. She picked up martial arts again, and learns to control her newfound instincts with only minimal injury. She makes friends, and realises that she can live as
both the cat and the girl. And she can do something with the powers given to her. From that moment on, Nessa works towards getting her control and skills high enough, that she can begin personal training for the Trailblazers. Her coach encourages this, and not long after getting out of rehab, Nessa applies and joins the Trailblazers.
Personality: When Nessa is in her human form, she's incredibly friendly and playful. She loves drawing and watching cheesy romance movies, and is very physical. She'll hug you, lean up against you like a cat would, and on occasion pounce you. It's part of her cat instincts that she liked enough to maintain in her everyday life. It's hard not to like her, though some people think she's a little too much to handle at first. Ever cheerful, it can be difficult to derail her out of her playfulness to have a serious discussion, but usually she will settle eventually, but try and stay upbeat. She can sometimes get wrapped up in her own little world--especially if she's been in animal form for too long--and sometimes needs a bit of a tug back into reality if she strays too far from the right people.
At first glance you might think she's a naive, helpess little girl, but you'd soon be proven wrong about it if you challenged her to a fight. She's a skilled fighter, and though she's in control of her feral side, she's not afraid to get a bit ferocious to shake you up. She's extremely brave and combat ready and very loyal to her friends. She's loyal to the point that even if she disagrees with a close friend and has a full blown argument, she'll probably defer to what that friend wants to do in frustration rather than go against them. She tends to be very agreeable socially, and is hardly ever out to actively hurt people, rarely being antagonistic.
She loves all things romance and still actively takes part in Super Shipping, her being involved now not stopping her. She takes a great interest in the relationships around her, and has a 'shipping chart' stowed away in one of her many sketchbooks of all her friends and other Superheroes and Villains, keeping it updated when something Big Goes Down. She even has herself on this list, and tries to take an overseer approach even if she's directly related or invested emotionally. That said, she's passionate about her ships and will defend them fiercely if she thinks they are Meant To Be.
Even though she's managed to quell the beast within, Nessa still goes on frequent hunts to keep it's hunger at bay. After living off of fresh meat for so long, she still sometimes likes to go out and kill something. It's never anything large, only a few rabbits here and there, but it helps her cope. She does it secretively though, unsure of how much the government would like it if they found out she was killing rabbits and eating them. She also tends to be a bit blase when it comes to gore and blood. Where most people would cringe and shy away, Nessa is often interested, if not fascinated by the viscera, and will almost try and figure out how what guts had been spilled.
Though she tries to have an optimistic and happy outlook on life, emotions can sometimes get the better of her. She usually remedies this by reverting to a feline form and going off to sulk somewhere until she feels better, but her close friends can usually tell when she's feeling off.
Differences from canon: There are quite a few differences between this AU and Canon Nepeta. For starters, her name is different (this is so if a Nepeta from Alternia wants to app they can) and as well as that she's matured a great deal. Nepeta from canon is almost four years younger, and far more excitable and cheerful, whereas this Nessa has mellowed slightly. She doesn't RP as much in her typing anymore (but it's still there in bits and drabs) but still uses cat puns because cat puns are excellent. Alternia is a very different place to grow up, so Nessa has a lot more compassion and is less wild than her canon counterpart who was literally raised by a cat in a society that culls its weakest offspring. Their societies are completely different, so Nessa is a lot more humanised (obviously) but still retains her wild streak thanks to her powers.
Power level: C Class
Powers: Nessa's main power is that she can shape shift. Though she seems to only be able to shapeshift feline animals, she's not actually told anyone if she can do other things since cats are her thing and nobody has bother to ask (she can but she's not very good at them and they always end up looking a little lumpy).
She can't get the hang of shifting parts of her body (alas, no fursona for Nessa) unless she's startled or has a fight or flight response and sometimes shifts part of her face, like whiskers and ears. But mostly just whole animals. With every creature, comes that creatures abilities. For example, if she wanted to run fast, she would pick a cheetah over say, a house-cat, and if she was going into full combat, she'd pick the sabre-toothed cat. The longer she stays in her animal form, however, the more blurred the lines get between humanity and becoming feral again, but usually this is only if she's been a cat for an entire day. Usually when she's unconscious, she reverts back.
Other than the obvious shapeshifting powers, Nessa is also skilled in martial arts, and is athletic. She's nimble and flexible, and can hold her own without if she needs to. She's also not against biting and scratching in her human form.
