CANON
History: here

Personality: At her core, Nepeta is incredibly friendly, and playful. At first glance you’d think she was just a naive, helpless little furry, who spends too much time in her own little world to know how to look after herself. You’d be right with about half of that.

Nepeta loves roleplaying and larping with pretty much anyone who will put up with her for more than five minutes. It frequently seeps out into her everyday life, she uses a lot of ‘cat puns’ in her typing and also loves using the cat emote :33. Because of her constant playfulness and roleplaying, Nepeta is not always taken seriously. It can be hard to derail her from her rping long enough to get her to talk about serious things, and even then she’s quite cheerful about it. In this sense she’s quite naïve, or at least she can seem that way.

When she’s not at her computer, Nepeta almost always in the company of her lusus, Pounce de Leon, a two mouthed catlike custodian, who Nepeta is entirely enamoured with. She frequently goes hunting with Pounce, hunting down the wild beasts the roam the plains outside her cave, which she kills and drags back to her cave to eat. Sometimes she rides on the back of Pounce if she’s too tired (Pounce sometimes rides on her back too). She uses every part of the animal, the meat for sustenance, the pelts for clothing and even the blood and entrails as paint for her cave paintings, which is another past time she enjoys. She has a wild streak running through her, and can be extremely savage but is always extremely blasé about it. She has no qualms with killing animals if she needs to survive and finds it strange when people get squeamish over guts and blood, or claim that it’s animal cruelty. This can sometimes cause arguments with her moirail, Equius, who disapproves of the slaughter of "noble beasts".

Even though she can come off as pretty naive and silly, Nepeta is also extremely brave and combat ready. If she gets riled up enough, she can make a pretty scary opponent, having learned all about the best places to get your claws in to gut someone, but she is hardly ever actively out to hurt people. She enjoys hunting and fighting in a physical sense but is very agreeable socially and very rarely antagonistic. Part of that is why she and Equius are good moirails for each other. She calms Equius down when he gets uncontrollably worked up over things and she watches over him and keeps him in line. He does frustrate her at times, as he can be extremely difficult and rarely listens to what she wants, thinking he knows best for her, but she cares about him a great deal. Their moiralleigance is a two way street, as Equius takes it upon himself to try and civilize Nepeta, and generally tries to keep her from behaving in a too wild a fashion, but she still has instincts, regardless of how horrified Equius would be if he found out. She does let Equius boss her around a bit. A lot of the other trolls question why she’s friends with him, as he can sometimes seem to treat her quite poorly. Nepeta isn’t afraid to argue back with Equius, but ultimately tends to defer to what he wants her to do, if with frustration.

So we’ve got an adorable but horrifically and indifferently savage cat-like troll who probably just wants to be your friend. But she’s also a romantic. Troll romance is complicated, to say the least, but another one of Nepeta’s past times is maintaining a ‘shipping wall’ of all her friends and one separate for all her roleplay characters. Nepeta takes a great interest in troll romance and loves organizing her friends into pairings and into the proper quadrants, and updates the wall when things change in her friends’ relationships. She’s pretty vigilant when it comes to this, and even has sections for herself on the wall. Ships sink and sail all the time, and though emotions are involved, Nepeta tries to take a overseer approach even when she’s directly affected by one of the ships sinking. She's passionate about her ships, and will actively defend them if she feels they are MEANT TO BE.

Nepeta tries not to worry about being judged and typically just does her own thing. She doesn’t really care too much about blood casting, which is a major part of Troll culture. She’s a mid-caste, meaning she’s a middleclass troll, but she doesn’t see the difference between a high blood or a low blood, and doesn’t see why there needs to be any divide, much to her moirail’s frustration. This is probably because she lives in a secluded cave in the middle of the wilderness and hasn’t had very much troll interaction except on the internet.

INTO THE HEDGE
Seeming: Beast; a large liger-like big cat.

Role: She was used as a hunter and as an attack-cat. Hunt down them varmints kind of attack-cat that won't retrieve anything alive or with all its organs.

Abilities: Enhanced strength, speed and agility, all attributed to cats. Can jump from high spots without getting damaged etc. Nothing overtly magical.

Description: When Nepeta goes BEAST, she's similar to the size and shape of a liger, with a little more of a fluffy mane. Think prepubescent male lion around the neck and head. She lacks the stripes of a liger, but does have some slight speckling along the back of her legs like a lion would. She's a greenish-grey in colour, with the tips of her mane darkening into a near black. She has bright yellow eyes with green pupils and razor sharp claws that she's very well versed in disembowelling with. When she's not in her beast mode, Nepeta is tiny in comparison. She's got the build of a prepubescent teenager (which is exactly what she is!) and doesn't look particularly threatening. She still has the claws, teeth and fur and varies her shape depending on who she's talking to, or how cat-like she's feeling. But generally she has slitted pupils, tufty ears, a long tail and her fluffy mane becomes hair and classy bust fur. Her arms still have the speckling and her legs are more feline than bipedal. (Here are some pictures)

Reasoning: Within Homestuck, Nepeta's affinity is to the star sign Leo. She's all about cats and being feline and cat-like. It was the obvious choice. She's already adept at fighting with claws and teeth, and hunted regularly with her guardian (also a cat).

MEMORIES
First Memory: Running in the plains with Pounce. She won't remember who or what Pounce was, but she'll remember the feeling of grass between her toes, rolling in mud puddles, and the thrill of the hunt. For survival, never for sport.
Another Five:
Painting with blood, being artistic in general
Pouncegreets!
Roleplaying
Shipping
Equius' death

She doesn't know why she's inside. The smells are musty and unfamiliar, and the floor is strange underneath her paws. Nothing makes her feel any semblance of familiarity and she pads through the long halls uneasily. She distinctly remembers being outside, somewhere with something else, running in long grasses, rolling around in mud puddles, and running as fast and as far as she could. Just because she could. Everything else is fogged and blurry, and she can't sift through the murk and blackness to pick out something more than a feeling or a scent. But she was sure of one thing. Inside was not a scent she was familiar with. Nothing about this place was. She had to find a way out.

As she pads down the corridor, one of the windows catches her eye as the light streaming from it shifts. Her pupils dilate and she saunters over to investigate. A beautiful landscape spreads out from the window, views stretching as far as the eye could see. She leaps up onto the windowsill, which is quite difficult given her current beast form, and begins to try and find a crack or a seem she could start to work at with her claws, just to get some of the breeze forcing leaves past the window to get into the room. Anything to get the smell of outside.

And then the image suddenly changes to a completely different landscape, which startles her so much that she falls backward off of the sill with a yelp, landing hard on her tail in her changeling form, in a heap of limbs and fluff.

"Yeowch…" she groans, rubbing her bottom and then issues the window with stink eye, scowling over her small teeth. "No fair!"

This was gonna be harder than she thought. She had to find a way out. She has to feel the grass again. She picks herself up, growling and dusting herself off before moving back onto four legs. She then gave the air a sniff, and stalked down the corridor, to actually do something she'd never done before and explore. Maybe she'd find a way out eventually? It just felt so important.
